I’ve been teaching guitar for Benedictine College since 1996. With some calculations, that would make this year my 20th anniversary at work for this fine institution.

It’s hard to believe. And it hurts a little bit to say it. When I started, I was just a rosey-cheeked kid fresh out of college. I wasn’t much older than the students there. We had a lot in common and they were easy to relate to.

Then something mysteriously happened. Over time, the distance in our ages has grown to the point that now I would just like to get those kids off of my lawn.
Actually, BC is a special place with a culture of faith, great people on staff and excellent students. I’m truly thankful for the people I’ve met and worked with in the music department there. It’s been fairly stress free and a place of real support and encouragement for students and faculty.

My weekly trip to Atchison, KS features the turning of the autumn leaves in the fall along the river bluff. Then the reemergence of blooms and fresh greenery in the spring time. AND they give you summer off!

Thanks to my amazing department chairperson, Dr. Ruth Krusemark and to all the awesome faculty and students that I’ve had the honor to work with over the years. I look forward and hope to continue the traditions at BC for many years to come.

I recently updated the Handbook for Guitar Studies at Benedictine College. Students can major in guitar, study as a minor or secondary instrument or even start from scratch in the group guitar class.

You can check out the handbook including requirements for graduation here.
