I’ve been playing guitar for a while now and it’s a fact that I love all types of music. We’ve been lucky to play with lots of great musicians in many genres from around that world. I go through phases of this or that and always have something to learn.
But… there was a time when I was just a kid with a dream, a tennis raquet and a mirror. In those days, I had every Rick Springfield record (tape), knew every word but nothing about making real music. When I was 8, 9, 10, 11 I wanted to be Rick Springfield.
Tastes change and you hear new things as you grow older but Rick was always there. My Aunt Joni and Uncle Barry had the coolest record collection (real rock stuff) with those great album covers. Boston, Heart, et. al! and they even eventually sold me my first guitar!
Flash forward a few years…
Last week we got to see (for the first time in real life) Rick in concert in KC. I really felt like that kid with his Tennis Raquet in his room hearing all those songs again. Must have been a similiar feeling that those young girls screaming at the Beatles must have had. I don’t think I would have felt that way about seeing Clapton or BB King. I was a little weirded out by my own inner
I still want to be Rick Springfield. It was a great show and Rick rocked it LOUD! Big Thank you to my Aunt Joni and Uncle Barry for the Tickets! They’re still seeing me through.
Thanks to Rick for the inspiration. A real 80’s Rock star who’s still the real deal today.
