Maria the Mexican’s 2nd full length recording entitled South of The Border Moonlight is an ode to the classic rock sound of 70’s SOCAL with a sub Rio Grande flare. It is American Soul and Mexicana Groove. Marìa and Tess Cuevas sing in both English and Spanish while drawing from their roots as performers in one of the first all female Mariachi bands in USA; Mariach Estrella. The bulk of this record was recorded at ARC in Omaha, NE by Ben Brodin (Conor Oberst, Falls, First Aid Kit, Pete Yorn) in the spring of 2015. It was mixed by Charles Eller (Dr. John, Richard Thompson, Grace Potter) at Lane Gibson’s in Burlington VT in November of 2015. The album’s 7 original and one Mexican classic songs describe a journey through love, lust, joy, fear, heartache and hope.
